HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 28 (acn) Cuba will face Canada tomorrow in the round of 16 of the 2020 CONCACAF Women´s U20 Championship running in the Dominican Republic from Feb 22 to March 8.
Cubans drew 0-0 with the DR in the final game of Group C thanks mainly to the great performance by local goalkeeper Nayelis Lopez who made several superb saves.
After this outcome, both sides totaled 4 points but the host squad finished second by having best goal difference (+3) than Cuba (-4), while United States topped the group with three victories, all by thrashings, the last one 11-0 over Honduras, and balance of 24 for and none against goals.
Canada ranked second in Pool E with four units (1-1-1), behind Jamaica (2-1-0).
The top three teams in each group advance to the round of 16, where they are joined by the four squads advancing from the qualifying stage (Saint Lucia, Bermuda, Grenada and Barbados).
The top two sides of the tournament will qualify for the 2020 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica and Panama as the CONCACAF representatives, besides these two teams who automatically qualified as co-hosts.
