Cuban scientists and institutions receive Carlos J. Finlay Order



HAVANA, Cuba, January 12 (ACN) A group of 43 members of the Cuban scientific community and two institutions were awarded the Carlos J. Finlay Order, by decree signed by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, and proposed by Armando Rodríguez Batista, Minister of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA by its Spanish acronym).

Established in 1981, the decoration, named after the most celebrated of Cuban researchers, is the highest honor bestowed upon professionals for extraordinary merit and valuable contributions to the development of the natural or social sciences that have contributed to progress for the benefit of humanity, and to the preservation and improvement of the health and well-being of the people.

It is also awarded to foreign individuals and organizations with significant contributions in this field. According to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment's (CITMA) Communications Department, for the 2025 selection process, its evaluation committee, comprised of experts from various sectors and fields of knowledge, received 80 nominations.

Of these, 77 were for Cuban citizens and three for national institutions.

The nominees belong to State Administration bodies: CITMA, Agriculture, Food Industry, Culture, Education, the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Interior, and Foreign Affairs, as well as the AZCUBA and BIOCUBAFARMA groups.

All the awards will be presented at an official ceremony as part of the activities commemorating Cuban Science Day.
