Cuba adquires state-of-art high-beam laser device for dentists

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 18 (ACN) A novel high-beam laser device (Fisser High Beam) for procedures in oral surgery has begun to be used at the Faculty of Stomatology of the Havana University of Medical Sciences.

The introduction of the equipment into social practice occurred last January and since then its results have been highly positive, officials from the Center for Technological Applications and Nuclear Development (Ceaden) confided to the Cuban News Agency. Ceaden is attached to the Agency for Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies (Aenta), of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma).

They added that its use is also effective in the application of laser therapy in patients over 60 years of age and they even have a proposal for it to be portable for much easier handling.

Inaugurated on October 28, 1987, in the presence of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, Ceaden was created with the purpose of supporting the nascent Cuban program for the peaceful use of nuclear energy in sectors of national life.

Gradually it has taken on diverse functions in research and full-cycle production, innovation, and the provision of highly specialized services.

Its main indicators support the National Program of Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies, the creation of laser equipment and devices for the National Health System, environmental monitoring, and irradiation in agriculture and other sectors.

Among its prominent results is the development, production, and generalization of the Fisser-21 laser physiotherapy components, which deserved the 2019 National Award for Technological Innovation, conferred by Citma, and used mainly in stomatology, orthopedics and traumatology, dermatology, burn care, rehabilitation, and sports medicine.

The Havana Faculty of Stomatology, officially named the Raúl González Sánchez Faculty of Stomatology, founded on November 19, 1900, has an educational character at the university level and currently belongs to the Havana University of Medical Sciences.
