International health convention Cuba Salud 2025 carries out high-level segment

 HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 22 (ACN) The high-level segment of the 5th Cuba Health 2025 International Convention took place today with a theme as challenging as hopeful: universal health coverage and under the One Health approach.

Hosted at the Havana Convention Center, ministers and experts from several nations and organizations agreed on the challenges in terms of broad thinking, integration of knowledge and coordinated action.

Dr. Jose Angel Portal Miranda, Cuban head of Public Health, stressed that the One Health approach reminds us that human, animal and environmental health are inseparable, because the welfare of one depends on the other.

Hence the imperative need for solutions to be both cross-sectoral and interdependent; these are the challenges we face, he told a plenary hall full of delegates and guests from dozens of countries.

In the high-level segment, interventions were made by Ministers Michael Darville, from Bahamas; Luther Castillo, of Science, Technology and Innovation of Honduras, and T. Mombesha, from Zimbabwe, followed by Melchior Aissi, Director General of the West Africa Organization, and Natalia Sediel, a Colombian expert, in a second panel.

In this regard, Portal Miranda affirmed that their assessments and knowledge constitute a guide for action and also an incentive for future work in the countries.

The head of Minsap affirmed that health and development are two closely related elements, which is why not achieving appropriate progress in health management can become one of the main obstacles to social progress.

Portal Miranda emphasized that in the midst of such complex challenges, it is imperative to work to achieve equity in health, understood as the guarantee of access to basic services, with universal coverage for all, at all ages and everywhere.

The future is certainly challenging and it is up to us to make the ethical aspiration of Health for All a reality and not a chimera; while what Cuba has done in more than six decades is an irrefutable proof that it is possible to achieve it, no matter how complex the times may be.
