Cuba and South Africa Look at Expanding Cooperation in Health



 Havana, April 17 (ACN) Cuban Health Minister Jose Angel Portal and South Africa’s Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Blade Nzimande addressed the possible expansion of bilateral relations in the field of health.

Portal wrote on X that they considered proposals to expand bilateral exchange in the areas of training, science and technology. He posted pictures of the meeting with his South African counterpart, who is paying an official visit to Cuba.

Cuba’s medical cooperation with South Africa dates back to February 1996, when the first Cuban health workers arrived in that African nation to make reality the accords reached between Fidel Castro and Nelson Mandela.

Some 1548 Cuban health workers have fulfilled medical missions in South Africa up to date, according to official statistics.

Cuba and South Africa established bilateral diplomatic relations in 1994.
