SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Apr 8 (ACN) With the opening on Monday of the IV International Convention on Science and Conscience, the University of Oriente (UO), in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, highlights the global scientific activity dedicated to boosting local and sustainable development.
Extended until April 11, the event welcomes more than 800 national and foreign delegates in face-to-face and virtual modalities, while pointing out communities as the center of socioeconomic growth.
In her opening remarks, Diana Sedal, rector of the institution, invited to exchange and reach consensus on topics such as biotechnology, bioengineering, renewable energy, integrated management of coastal areas, among others, based on innovation as a pillar that supports governance.
She described the event as a necessary, timely and urgent space for dialogue on the social responsibility of universities with sustainable development, in view of the achievement of the 2030 Agenda.
During the event, the UO received the World Award for Academic Excellence for its products in favor of science and innovation, and the head of the university was appointed as Honorary Member of the World Council of University Academics and Researchers.
