HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 7 (ACN) "In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 5, we learned the unfortunate news of the death of 10-year-old Geobel Damir Ortiz Ramirez," reads a statement issued by the Institute of Hematology and Immunology on the death of the little boy.
As is known, after having been admitted to our institution, he was transferred last March 12, at his mother's request, to a hospital facility in the United States, it added.
"Our collective feels deep pain and consternation at this time. In his transit through the Institute, he received the attention and care of doctors, nurses and all those who were involved in his hospitalization here," the text continued.
It explained that the diagnosis and aggressive course of Ortiz Ramirez's disease, in addition to being a challenge to science and knowledge, is often a source of emotional connection with the child and his or her family members for those who treat these pathologies.
The statement also indicated that the experience accumulated in the treatment of oncohematological diseases in the pediatric age group does not make specialists immune to pain. The death of a child always produces shock and shock.
"We join in the mourning and grief of his relatives. We ask for due respect at this time. Geobel Damir was more than a patient, he was a child. A Cuban child," the text concluded.
