Cuba hails 25th anniversary of the Latin American School of Medicine

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 15 (ACN) On the 25th anniversary of the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM by its Spanish acronym), Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, sent a warm greeting to the students and graduates of that center.

On X, the President expressed his conviction that the idea of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, is alive and bearing fruit.

He pointed out that each graduate carries that legacy wherever he or she saves or cures a life and teaches others the most humane profession.

For his part, Cuban health minister, Jose Angel Portal, affirmed that the ELAM is a work of love and dedication to the people of the world and thanked the professors and students trained at the institution, who already number more than 31,000 physicians from 122 countries.

On the same social network, the Cuban government stressed that ELAM was created as a result of the humanist and internationalist vision of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.

The world will always count on Cuba's solidarity, the message on the government account added.

This school provides free education in medical sciences to poor young people from Latin America, Africa and the United States, so that after six years they can return to their communities to contribute to the sustainability of their health systems and is part of the Integral Health Program with which Cuba extends medical collaboration in solidarity to several countries.
