Cuban health authorities urge a responsible response to epidemiological situation

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 16 (ACN) Dr. Francisco Durán García, national director of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, called on the population to act more responsibly against and work harder to tackle the current epidemiological situation in Cuba, marked by a spreading transmission of the dengue and oropouche viruses in 14 and 15 provinces of the country, respectively.

He informed that more than 17,000 people are either in hospital—quite a few of them in ICUs—or homebound on suspicion of being infected with one of these Arboviral diseases, which keep reproducing due to the current hot and rainy weather across the island.

Dr. Durán stressed the importance of working together with the regional health authorities in preventive sanitation tasks such as cleaning and pruning and urged people to see a doctor at once if symptoms such as headaches, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea and fever appear.
