Cuba and Indonesia sign MOU on scientific collaboration



HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 22 (ACN) Eduardo Martinez Diaz, Cuban Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment, and Laksana Tri Handoko, president of the Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in this city relating to scientific collaboration in areas such as renewable energy, nanotechnology, agriculture and food production, and life, health and environmental sciences, among others.

Both officials had met earlier to discuss possible forms of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation.

Mr. Tri Handoko, who stated his interest in promoting collaboration in biotechnology and biodiversity studies and offered a fellowship for a Cuban researcher in Indonesian universities, announced that a technical team from his country will come to Cuba within a month to discuss joint projects.

Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia and Oceania, between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It consists of over 17,000 islands, including Sumatra, Java, Celebes and parts of Borneo and New Guinea.

It is the world’s largest archipelagic state and the 14th-largest country by area at 1,904,569 square kilometers and with over 280 million people. In 2023, according to the World Bank, the economy of Indonesia ranked as the world's 7th-largest by GDP.
