Cuban province applies innovative practice to favor family planning program

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Feb 19 (ACN) With the innovative use of catheters for the removal of contraceptive implants, the Ramon Lopez Peña polyclinic in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba contributes to the improvement of the Family Planning and Reproductive Risk Program.

According to Alain Leon, director of the center, told the Cuban News Agency, they have been performing the minimum access procedure since 2023, in order to satisfy the demands of the female population and reduce the impact on the service due to the difficult acquisition of resources.

Among the main benefits of the novel practice, he pointed out the speed of the procedure, since it requires a minor cut and dispenses with tweezers and large sutures, hence the significant reduction of discomfort and painful sensations in the arm, where the contraceptive device is placed.

With the support of specialists in Gynecobstetrics and General Comprehensive Medicine, the polyclinic offers training courses in order to socialize the experience and its advantages to other primary care units and hospitals that contribute to the area, he explained.

As part of the care provided to women of childbearing age, the municipal and provincial Family Planning and Reproductive Risk clinics provide advice on the use of contraceptive methods and the appropriate time and conditions for conception.

The favorable functioning of these spaces boosts the Maternal and Child Care Program, and contributes to the prevention and control of teenage pregnancies and pregnancies in disadvantaged health conditions, to minimize complications during pregnancy, childbirth and in later stages.
