HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 14 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, visited today the Liorad base business unit, belonging to the Aica Pharmaceutical Laboratories of the Group of the Biotechnological and Pharmaceutical Industries of Cuba (BioCubaFarma).
During his tour, accompanied by Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, Cuban deputy prime minister, the president learned that the plant stopped its operations in 2020 due to the aging of its systems, but it is currently one of the most modern in the country, the Presidency informed on X.
Diaz-Canel was informed that Liorad is responsible for manufacturing all the dental anesthetics used by the health system, and about thirty other products, including liquids and lyophilized products.
Antonio Vallin, general director of Aica Laboratories, explained to the Cuban head of state that since April 1.4 million units have been manufactured there, and that there was the capacity to reach 3.7 million, but there were difficulties with the raw material and now they are recovering.
Diaz-Canel also visited Thursday the Information Technology Enterprise (ETI) of BioCubaFarma, an entity that provides high value-added services and products in information and communications technologies.
During the exchange with managers and workers, the president highlighted the innovative work of the company and the high level of training of those who work there.
Founded on November 27, 2012 by the Cuban Council of Ministers, BioCubaFarma aims to produce high-tech medicines, equipment and services aimed at improving the health of the Cuban people and generating exportable goods and services.
