Radiopharmaceuticals, interesting for Chinese and Cuban researchers

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 12 (ACN) The Cuban Isotope Center (CENTIS by its Spanish acronym) showed its interest in collaborating with the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO) from the People's Republic of China in the research, development, production and commercialization of radiopharmaceuticals.

We can identify common interests in the research and development of new products for nuclear medicine, including those derived from Cuban biotechnology, Rene Leyva Montana, general director of CENTIS, told the Cuban News Agency in an exclusive interview.

Leyva Montana is one of the Cuban specialists attending the Seminar on experiences of China and Cuba in the effective use of energy, and in his statements he considered that the event has represented the possibility of being in direct contact for the first time with a company from that Asian country.

CENTIS can collaborate with the Chinese counterpart in the research, development, production and commercialization of radiopharmaceuticals, since these are used for diagnosis based on Technetium 99m, as well as those that use Iodine 131, would be the ones with the greatest possibility for commercialization and access to its technology, both for the productive infrastructure and for high-tech equipment for direct patient care, he added.

These are used in diagnostics and therapeutics, mainly in cancer treatment, although functional studies and clinical trials are carried out for the development of new drugs, mainly in biotechnology, and also in the Maternal and Infant Care Program, with hormone screening tests.

CENTIS executes the complete production cycle: import of raw materials, quality control, manufacture and control of radiopharmaceuticals, packaging, distribution to hospitals and export.
