Cuba reaffirms its commitment to address health care challenges



HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 18 (ACN) Jose Angel Portal Miranda, Cuban Minister of Public Health, reiterated today Cuba's commitment to use science, technology and innovation as fundamental tools to address global health challenges.

The Cuban minister, who is part of the delegation accompanying President Miguel Diaz-Canel to the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, advocated in a statement published on the Ministry of Public Health's website for greater international cooperation in medical research, knowledge sharing and technology transfer to ensure that everyone has equitable access to quality health care.

Despite the economic challenges facing the country we have demonstrated our ability to provide quality medical care to our people, Portal Miranda said.

He highlighted the training of highly qualified Cuban professionals and the development of medicines and vaccines that have benefited millions of people around the world.

The minister recalled that at the recent Summit of the Group of 77 and China, held in this capital, the Caribbean country ratified its commitment to the use of science, technology and innovation in the search for solutions to the problems facing humanity, especially in developing countries.
Portal Miranda urged to understand that access to health is vital for the development of peoples, so it is essential to place advances in terms of equitable access to health.

There is no possibility of development without guaranteeing the right to life and without taking advantage of scientific advances for the benefit of all, he added.
