Cuban student third in International Chemistry Olympiad

CAMAGÜEY, Cuba 30 (ACN) César Endris Acosta Martínez, a graduate of this province’s Vocational Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE), won a bronze medal in the 55th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2023) held in Switzerland on July 16 to 25.

In statements to the press, the Cuban student—second in the 2022 Ibero-American Chemistry Olympiad—said that his achievement in his first IChO event, which gathered representatives from 90 countries, was an honor for him, as in the last six years Cuba had not won a medal in these events.

César, who felt attracted to science and research since he was in ninth grade and won the national chemistry contests in 11th and 12th grades, will now do Military Service and then enroll in the School of Physics of the university.

Come October, two Cuban students from this province will compete in the Ibero-American Olympiad, to be hosted by Ecuador via online.
