HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 9 (ACN) The Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB by its Spanish acronym) affirmed today that the technological platform of the Abdala vaccine is safe and well-established.
On Twitter the scientific institution highlighted that the anti-COVID-19 immunogen, first developed in Latin America and the Caribbean, has a very safe, immunogenic, efficient and effective protein subunit in adults and children.
During previous days, the development center reiterated that Abdala has shown its efficacy in the control of different variants of concern of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, particularly during the Delta and Omicron outbreaks.
This vaccine, according to CIGB specialists, showed 100 % efficacy in the prevention of severe symptomatic disease (patients who develop complications and require invasive mechanical ventilation), as well as in the prevention of death.
Abdala's production platform is based on the yeast Pichia pastoris, which has been used by CIGB in the preventive recombinant vaccine Heberbiovac HB against hepatitis B virus, registered in more than 30 countries and certified by the World Health Organization.
