Immunization with Cuban vaccine began in Mexico City

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 23 (ACN) The anti-COVID-19 vaccination day with the Cuban vaccine Abdala began this week in the 230 health centers of Mexico City, according to the Ministry of Health of the city, which today described the immunogen as safe and effective.

The agency said on Twitter that during the first day of vaccination, on Wednesday, 2,037 doses of the drug developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of Cuba were applied, to be used as a booster for over 18 years of age.

According to the Business Group of the Biotechnological and Pharmaceutical Industries of the Caribbean nation (BioCubaFarma), more than 4,000 Mexicans have already received a dose of Abdala, and on Thursday the second shipment of this immunogen, the first against COVID-19 developed in Latin America, was made.

Recently, the city's director of digital government, Eduardo Clark, pointed out that the Cuban vaccine was tested in Mexico by the Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks and the New Molecules Committee, institutions that have proven its 92 % efficacy in preventing serious cases of the disease.

The Mexican Ministry of Health reported that in late November this year it received the first shipment of the Abdala vaccine, with 4,092,500 doses.
