HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 19 (ACN) The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Cuba and the Ministries of Public Health and of Foreign Trade and Investment signed an agreement to increase health-related technical assistance and capacity building, including the procurement of contraceptives—IUDs in particular—as part of a regional strategy of the international agency to promote IUD use in the context of the country program agreed between UNFPA and Cuba until 2024.
Dr. José Angel Portal Miranda, Minister of Public Health, and Dr. Natalia Kanem, UNFPA Under-Secretary General and Executive Director, discussed ways of fostering engagement in South-South cooperation.
Portal Miranda thanked the renowned doctor—who has held leadership roles for more than 30 years in the fields of medicine, public and reproductive health, social justice and philanthropy—for coming to Cuba and attending the 4th International Convention Cuba-Salud 2022, where she delivered a keynote lecture titled Sexual and Reproductive Health for All.
