Cuba Boosts Health Cooperation with other Nations

Havana, Oct 19 (ACN) Cuba’s willingness to strengthen international health cooperation was ratified on Wednesday during several meetings held by Health Minister Jose Angel Portal with his counterparts from different countries.

The meetings stressed the island nation’s support of other nations over the years and particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking with Bolivian Health minister Doctor Jeyson Auza Pinto, the Cuban official recalled the training of Bolivian doctors in Cuba and defended health as a human right.

During a meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart Magaly Gutierrez, the Cuban health minister reiterated the island’s historic commitment to the South American nation and its determination to keep contributing to the health of the Venezuelan people.

Meanwhile, Jamaican Health and Wellbeing Minister Cristopher Tufton thanked Cuba for its support of the Jamaican people and he expressed his aspiration to increase health exchange through bilateral cooperation.

The close friendly relations between Cuba and Surinam and the history of medical cooperation were stressed during a meeting between the island’s health minister and his Surinamese counterpart Amar Ramudhin.

Trinidad-Tobago has always backed Cuba, said Terrece Deyalsingh, health minister of that Caribbean nation, who also affirmed his intention to further boost cooperation with Cuba.

Similarly, Armindo Daniel Thiago, Mozambique’s health minister insisted in his wish to increase the training of medical doctors and cooperation in biotechnology.

All these meetings took place during the 4th Cuba-Salud 2022 International Health Convention, a forum underway in Havana allowing debates on world and regional health, as well as on the Cuban experience. The event’s slogan is “Universal Health, as part of the 2030 Health Agenda, in a post-COVID-19 scenario.”
