HAVANA, Cuba, May 9 ( ACN) COVID-19 indicators in Cuba continue recovering, a situation related to the progress of vaccination, as explained today by Dr. Francisco Duran Garcia, national director of epidemiology of the ministry of public health, in his weekly TV presentation.
During the past week, no deaths were reported due to complications associated with the disease, and since the outbreak of the epidemic in the country (March 2020) there have been 8,527 deaths, for a lethality rate of 0.77 %, the specialist confirmed.
During this period, 36,831 samples were studied for the diagnosis of COVID-19, of which 849 were positive.
In 12 provinces, positivity is reported as low, unlike Camagüey, Villa Clara and Mayabeque, which had high rates, and the special municipality of Isle of Youth, with very high indicators, Duran Garcia stated.
There were 323 pediatric cases in the last seven days, 225 less than in the previous week, he specified.
The national director of epidemiology also announced that between May 1 and 7, 12 cases of the omicron variant (BA:2 subvariant) were sequenced and diagnosed in the country, totaling 459 sequenced cases of this variant.
