Cuba: Human Health and the Environment



Havana, April 5 (ACN) Cuba’s Health Ministry takes action towards an ontime response to the challenges facing the planet and its environment, said Ileana Morales, director of Science and Technological Innovation in the sector.

In the context of World Health Day on April 7, which is dedicated to the connection between the health of human beings, animals and plants and the planet itself, the Cuban official said that her country prioritizes the minimization of risks from a preventive perspective, through government policies.

In a press conference at the Pan-American Health Organization Office in Havana, the Cuba official explained about the state program known as Life Task to face climate change.

The program includes the improvement of epidemiological surveillance systems, the attention of the people’s health focusing of populations at risk, while the initiative also prioritizes 12 areas including environmental health, epidemiology, vectors, science and innovation, communication, education and investment.

World Health Organization and Pan-Am Health Organization representative in Cuba, Jose Moya, called on governments and citizens to put the health of the people and the planet at the center of all actions and share experiences aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change.

Cuba will mark World Health Day on Thursday with a central ceremony at Havana’s Metropolitan Park with contests, promotions, sale of plants and natural medicine products.
