Díaz-Canel highlights BCIE’s support to Cuban COVID-19 vaccines



HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 12 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted today on Twitter the approval of a first financing to Cuba by the Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica (Central American Bank for Economic Integration) amounting to 46.7 million euros to produce 200 million COVID-19 vaccines.

Díaz-Canel acknowledged that BCIE’s funds will help support the fight against the current pandemic in Cuba for the benefit of more than 11 million people.

On a note that BCIE published on its website, the entity remarks that this contribution is intended to strengthen Cuba’s capacity to develop and produce medicines, equipment, vaccines and other medical supplies, as well as the infrastructure of the Cuban biopharmaceutical industry.

BCIE Executive President hailed this first approval for Cuba and said he hopes it will be the first of many others.

The project will be executed by the United Nations Development Program on the basis of its policies and regulations.
