HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 4 (ACN) On the occasion of the celebration today of the Day of the Hygienist and Epidemiologist in Cuba, the health minister, José Angel Portal Miranda, acknowledged the commitment of these professionals to public health in the country.
On Twitter, Portal Miranda also highlighted the work of hygienists and epidemiologists in the fight against COVID-19.
The date is celebrated in Cuba as a tribute to the birth of the outstanding hygienist and epidemiologist Juan Guiteras Gener (1852-1925), who described the first cases of dengue in the country.
The writer and pedagogue became an authority in tropical medicine and is considered the father of national medical parasitology.
