MATANZAS, Cuba, Dec 27 (ACN) Political and government authorities urged people to observe discipline in order to guarantee the levels of immunology achieved in this province, where more than 94% of the population has already completed some of the anti-COVID-19 vaccination scheme.
Liván Izquierdo Alonso, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and its first secretary in the province of Matanzas, called on the residents to keep respecting social distancing, wearing masks and practicing hand hygiene to avoid contagion because, he said, the vaccine must be accompanied by discipline.
“So far, the booster Abdala dose has almost been completed for the large group of health and tourism workers,” provincial governor Mario Sabines explained. “It is now being administered in four of the province’s 13 municipalities.”
Authorization was requested to start its use as soon as possible in places closely related to the tourist industry, at or near sites such as the largest and best preserved wetland of the Caribbean islands, where COVID-19 reached very dangerous levels in the summer.
Nowadays the province of Matanzas enjoys a good immunological situation, but the number of cases is on an upward trend (51), for an incidence rate of 10.4 per 100,000 inhabitants. And even if there have been no deaths lately, people must not neglect the health protocols, especially now that the end of the year is drawing close.
Meanwhile, more than 88% of the children convalescing after COVID-19, included in the target population for vaccination, have already received the Soberana Plus dose, Lissy Vega Rodríguez, in charge of the immunization process in the province, told ACN.
