HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 16 (ACN) The book Cuban Scientific Production on COVID-19 was presented in Havana, in the presence of Dr. José Moya Medina, representative in Cuba of the Pan American and World Health Organizations (PAHO/WHO) and José Ángel Portal Miranda, head of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap).
Dr. Diana Prieto Acosta, Book Director of the Ciencias Médicas publishing house, pointed out that this compilation of summaries of documents and articles (March 2020-June 2021) Volume I, divided into two volumes, is a timely, necessary and obligatory reference for those seeking information published by Cuban professionals during the first 16 months of confronting this pandemic.
She also explained that this work presents innovative research results carried out by specialists in different areas of scientific knowledge, with a holistic and multidisciplinary approach, published in Cuban and foreign medical journals, as well as in six international repository sites.
Quantitative analyses are also offered, based on metric studies, which allow identifying the most outstanding authors, the collaboration between the different sectors of science and the most frequently dealt with topics, among other interesting data that complement the information contained in its pages, Prieto Acosta said.
These compiled texts not only offer answers and solutions to clinical and epidemiological questions generated at this stage, but also show the dedication of our men and women of science in the search for solutions to contain the spread of the disease, she said.
The main author, Doctor in Sciences Ileana Alfonso Sánchez, thanked PAHO/WHO and Minsap for the support provided for the preparation of the text, in digital form, which will be presented at the International Book Fair next year.
Portal Miranda was in charge of the prologue of the volume, in which he emphasized the challenge it posed for researchers, professors and health professionals due to the need to have scientific information available in a quick and accessible way that would allow for the timely adoption of decisions, both for the health system and for the country's top management.
In the presence of Dr. Regla Angulo Pardo, Deputy Minister of Public Health, and Doctor of Science Pastor Castell-Florit Serrate, President of the National Council of Scientific Societies, and the work team in charge of preparing the work, among other guests, the Minister highlighted that the documents compiled in these pages were published in 56 Cuban and 86 foreign medical journals, as well as in six international repository sites.
The documents collected in this volume not only offer answers to clinical and epidemiological questions generated during the confrontation with COVID-19, but also show the dedication of the men and women of science to the search for solutions to contain the spread of the terrible disease that has spread to more than 190 countries, he emphasized.
