HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 13 (ACN) The 49th week has registered a series of positive indicators that show the reduction of confirmed and active cases and deaths caused by the COVID-19, informed today the national director of epidemiology of the ministry of public health ( MINSAP by its Spanish acronym), Dr. Francisco Duran Garcia.
In the weekly television presentation on Monday, the specialist informed that a large number of tests continue being processed and pointed out that a total of 126,570 samples were studied for the diagnosis of COVID-19.
After the analysis of the tests, 538 positive samples for the disease were identified during the week, which shows a reduction of 332 confirmed cases.
The head of epidemiology also noted that December has registered a considerable decrease in the number of positive cases, with a total of 1,000 confirmed cases, compared to the 9,994 diagnosed in November.
He emphasized that in week 49 the number of autochthonous cases also decreased, with 606 positive cases, compared to 843 confirmed cases in the same period of the previous year.
Duran Garcia also highlighted the decrease in the number of pediatric cases, registering 58 positive cases, compared to 142 in the previous week.
Four deaths were recorded during the week, five less than in the previous day, a figure that shows the decrease in the number of fatalities, the expert continued.
This week we ended with less than one death per day, a reduction of the lethality, which is the main effect achieved with vaccination, he explained.
Vaccination is the reason for maintaining protective measures, because it avoids an unfavorable evolution of the clinical picture towards severity, critical condition or death, although it does not prevent contagion, the doctor concluded.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic in March, 963,693 positive cases have been confirmed, of which 954,986 have been recovered, and the death of 8,313 people is regretted.
