Cuban health minister holds meeting with his Mauritanian counterpart



HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 10 (ACN) With the aim of strengthening and expanding collaboration in the health sector, Cuban health minister, Jose Angel Portal Miranda, met with his Mauritanian counterpart, Sidi Zehaf, Cuba's ministry of public health ( MINSAP by its Spanish acronym) reported today.

Portal Miranda thanked Zehaf for his willingness to make this visit at such a complicated moment in the confrontation with COVID-19, according to the MINSAP statement.

During the exchange, the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement to send Cuban collaborators to that African country was discussed, which will make it possible to strengthen the work and collaboration ties that both nations have kept since 2017.

The Cuban minister ratified the willingness to continue increasing bilateral collaboration in other fields such as research, human resources training, and others.

He explained the strategy to confront the current pandemic in Cuba and highlighted the development of the five vaccines produced in the country, with which more than 83 % of the Cuban population has already been fully vaccinated.

During their stay in Cuba, the Mauritanian delegation will visit health institutions in the capital, such as the "19 de Abril" Polyclinic, the "Hermanos Ameijeiras" Clinical Surgical Hospital and the University of Medical Sciences.
