UNICEF presents in Havana State of the World's Children report

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 19 (ACN) The State of the World's Children 2021, presented every year by UNICEF, was presented on Thursday at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP by its Spanish acronym) in Havana.

On My Mind. Promoting, protecting and caring for mental health in childhood, is the name of the current edition, which focuses especially on the mental health of children, adolescents and caregivers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Brandão Co, UNICEF representative in Cuba, said that mental health is a rarely mentioned topic, but that it has become especially important in the wake of the pandemic due to the psychological consequences of social isolation in infants and the work pressure on their caregivers.

The meeting was attended by Tania Margarita Vruz Hernandez, deputy minister of MINSAP, Carmen Borrego Calzadilla, head of the mental health department, Tania Peon Valdes, secretary of the national group of child psychiatry.

Borrego Calzadilla stated that as of November 16, 1,314,242 children in Cuba had received the complete vaccination scheme, with no adverse effects.

However, according to the UNICEF report, special attention should still be paid to the psychological consequences of Covid-19 on minors, since their socialization and personality strengthening spaces have been affected.
