Cuban FM highlights effectiveness of Soberana02 and Plus vaccines in pediatric population

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 1 (ACN) Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla highlighted today the high efficacy in children of the anti-COVID-19 vaccination scheme with Soberana02 and Soberana Plus, which supports the recent request to extend the authorization for emergency use of these drugs to the pediatric population.

On Twitter, the Cuban diplomat said that very soon children and adolescents in the Caribbean nation will be better protected from the infectious disease.

On Monday, the general director of the Finlay Vaccine Institute (IFV), Vicente Verez Bencomo, informed that the scientific center requested the Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices (Cecmed by its Spanish acronym) to extend the authorization for emergency use of Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus in the pediatric population from two to 18 years of age.

According to the specialist, the Soberana Pediatrics clinical trial showed, after applying the formulations, a superior immune response in children compared to adolescents and in these two groups compared to adults.

With two doses of Soberana 02, after 14 days, 74 % of the adults had achieved the necessary antibody titers against the virus; while, under the same conditions, almost 93 % of the adolescents responded significantly to the pathogen and less than 1 % of the infants from three to 11 years of age did not respond.
