New COVID-19-related health protocols in eastern Cuba

HOLGUÍN, Cuba, Jul 21 (ACN) The Provincial Division of Public Health in the province of Holguín is already implementing new isolation protocols for SarsCOV-2 suspected and positive cases, in keeping with the in-home care procedures established in view of the high transmission levels in several Cuban provinces.

In statements to the press, director Katia María Ochoa said low-risk patients and contacts of confirmed cases will remain at home under the care of the family doctor and nurse and pointed out that the social actors in each community must contribute to the fulfillment of biosecurity measures such as social distancing, hand hygiene and the use of face masks.

Amarilis Pupo, director of the Provincial Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, also highlighted the importance of communication between the doctor and the homebound patients with a view to the timely report of new or more serious COVID-19 symptoms.

In the last 15 days, the province has registered 3,548 positive cases, for a rate of more than 336 patients per 100,000 inhabitants. Measures have been strengthened to pay increased attention to vulnerable sectors, such as senior citizens and children, as some 64 centers keep admitting and confining confirmed and suspected high-risk patients.
