Over one million Cubans have received one of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine candidates

HAVANA, Cuba, May 31 (ACN) As a result of the health interventions, clinical trials and intervention studies carried out so far with Cuban vaccine candidates against COVID-19, more than one million people have received an immunogen, informed today Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of epidemiology of the ministry of public health ( MINSAP by its Spanish acronym).

During the daily TV press conference on the fight against the pandemic, the specialist commented that this will have a positive influence on the country's capacity to reduce the incidence and lethality of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but with a view to the future.

The doctor explained in this sense that the protective measures now continue to be the most important and on which the real possibilities of curbing the high transmission of the disease in the country lie.

Regardless of the new strains in circulation, the restriction measures have not yet allowed the pandemic to be controlled and, very significantly, self-responsibility is more necessary than ever, Duran pointed out.

Such considerations acquire an indisputable relevance when we learn that May presented the most unfavorable figures of new infections since the outbreak of the pandemic in Cuba in March 2020, with 36,644 cases; more than 5,000 diagnosed and 705 deaths than in April.

He also said that only six municipalities of the national territory have a low transmission of COVID-19, while in 55 it is very high and in 68, high.
