Vaccine intervention with candidate Abdala continues in western Cuba

MATANZAS, Cuba, May 19 (ACN) More than 3,000 tourism workers have received the vaccine candidate Abdala as part of the sanitary intervention currently under way in the region, according to the Provincial Defense Council (CDP).

Alexis Medel Aviles, director of the Cuban Medical Services Marketing branch in this province, explained that the process is going on smoothly and expected to cover all workers of this field before the 10 days initially scheduled for the intervention with the first dose.

Medel Avilés said that 5,900 employees will be inoculated with Abdala in order to boost their immune system, a vital purpose given the importance of protecting this key sector of the economy at provincial and national level.

Provincial Public Health director Ailuj Casanova Barreto underscored the good results of the process to inoculate medical workers—over 80% of them have already received Abdala—as well as the optimal organization of the large-scale intervention soon to be extended to people over 19 years of age.

CDP vice president Mario Sabines Lorenzo said in turn that the province of Matanzas remains engaged in medical screening and cluster control in order to keep up the fight against COVID-19 and improve the current epidemiological situation facing the region.
