Italian deputy FM praises medical aid from Cuba to Italy in times of pandemic

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 21 (ACN) We are deeply grateful for the support that Cuba offered to Italy during the most difficult moments of the COVID-19 pandemic, as expressed by the Italian deputy foreign minister, Emanuela Claudia del Re, to the Cuban ambassador Jose Carlos Rodriguez Ruiz, when she welcomed him on Sunday at the headquarters of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).

The deputy minister considered this help as a clear manifestation of the great friendship that exists between Cuba and Italy, as well as the solidarity emergency help of the two Cuban medical brigades of the Henry Reeve Contingent that worked along with the Italian health personnel in the confrontation with the COVID-19 for several months in two of the most affected Italian regions, Lombardy and Piedmont.
The International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Situations of Disasters and Serious Epidemics "Henry Reeve" was constituted on September 19th, 2005.
As of August 10, 2020, the Contingent has provided health care to 46 nations and five non-self-governing territories. These brigades have included the participation of more than 9,000 Cuban health professionals and have provided medical care to approximately 4 million people, saving the lives of more than 89,000 people.
During the meeting del Re and Rodriguez talked about the state of cooperation between Cuba and Italy, which is developed mainly in food security, heritage conservation, culture, environment and territorial development.
