HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 14 (ACN) The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended that elbow greetings should be avoided to prevent the contagious effects of COVID-19 coronavirus disease.
This polite gesture has become popular around the world and has become one of the banners of the pandemic, but it can also be unsafe, WHO said, because of the danger of short distances due to the high transmissibility of the virus.
On the contrary, people should eliminate it and take their hand to their heart, suggested Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, General Director of the group, who advised against that kind of greeting.
Other specialists agreed with his criteria and even gave more reasons, referring to the fact that the elbow collision is a bad looking greeting, unhygienic, that does not fulfill the requirements of physical distance.
After all, they argued, anything that implies reducing social distance is not recommended, including the touch of boots suggested as a greeting for footballers before the start of the games.
