SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Sep 4 (ACN) A cardiovascular evaluation to children who were positive to COVID-19, a high scientific rigor research developed in Villa Clara(central Cuba), will be extended to all Cuba by disposition of the Ministry of Public Health.
The study includes 36 children, including a child under one year of age, said study leader Lisset Ley Vega, a specialist, first and second degree in Pediatrics and second degree in Cardiology.
All cases studied were contacts of positive and suspicious SARS-CoV-2 virus, the expert stressed.
By age groups, most of them are over 10, and it is remarkable that from the total sample, 20 of them were asymptomatic, which shows a potential danger of having the virus, not showing symptoms, and transmitting the disease to other people.
This research began last July with a genetic and molecular study in patients affected by the novel coronavirus, and cardiovascular screening was added to children in the pediatric age range, up to 18 years old, without a history of chronic diseases and optimal nutritional status.
The affected are currently receiving treatment according to protocols and follow-up during the convalescence phase on the complications that appear after the viral infection, which, if treated in a timely manner, are reversible in most cases, she concluded.
