HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 27 (ACN) Jan Louis Betlem, regional director of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) project, held a meeting with experts from the Center for Environmental Studies of Cienfuegos (CEAC by its Spanish acronym), in central Cuba.
Betlem was accompanied by Sherry Heileman, consultant and auditor, and met with researchers from the scientific institution that fosters the IIWEco project, called Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity from the Integrated Management of Basins and Coastal Areas approach in Cuba.
Both experts toured the facilities of the Environmental Testing Laboratory (LEA by its Spanish acronym), where they appreciated the potential of this important research center, affiliated to the Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies Agency (AENTA by its Spanish acronym).
The evaluation of the program's progress included each of the components of the technical activity and the supervision of the process of acquiring equipment for intervention actions in the four basins planned: Guanabo in Havana; Arimao in Cienfuegos; Agabama in Trinidad, and San Juan in Santiago de Cuba.
IWEco.cuba is coordinated by the Center for Environmental Studies of Cienfuegos and constitutes a sub-project of the Regional Integrated Management of water, soil and ecosystems of the small island states of the Caribbean.
