GUANTANAMO, Cuba, Mar 19 (ACN) The 32nd edition of the International Book Fair, scheduled for March 20-24, opens today in this city with the Vitrales Gala, dedicated to the literature, music and culture of Brazil, guest of honor country.
Lazaro Mcpherson, artistic director of the show, told the Cuban News Agency that the Quinteto de Cuerdas (String Quintet) will perform works from the universal, Cuban and Brazilian repertoire.
The 32nd International Book Fair in the easternmost of Cuba's provinces will showcase the best of Cuban and universal literature, this time with a permanent venue along Calixto Garcia Street.
It will also pay tribute to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Alejo Carpentier; 135th anniversary of the arrival in Guantanamo of the magazine La Edad de Oro; 150th anniversary of the fall in combat of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes and 180th anniversary of the birth of the famous patriot Pedro Agustin Perez, the only one in the region deserving of the highest rank of the Cuban Liberation Army, that of Major General.
Around 2,000 titles and more than 60,000 copies will be sold at the fair, with a variety of literature of all genres and for different audiences, and digital books will be available for sale, in line with the technological development of the world, where more and more readers are choosing this format.
The program will reach communities in transformation, among them Carreteritas, Barrio Universitario, Ho Chi Minh, Santa Rosa, La Sombrilla de Paraguay and the municipality of Caimanera.
