New colloquium will reaffirm ever-lasting relevance of Fidel Castro's thoughts

HAVANA, Cuba, February 3 (ACN) The First International Colloquium “Fidel, Legacy and Future,” recently announced and scheduled to take place on August 10 to 13, will delve into the ideas of the Commander-in-Chief in these complex times, on the occasion of the centenary of his birth.

Sissi Abay Díaz, deputy director of the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, sponsor of the event, remarked that the Colloquium will be an opportunity to reassert Fidel’s impact on the fight against imperialism, inequality, climate change, as well as his commitment to peace.

She announced that 10 topics related to his revolutionary, internationalist, and humanist work, as well as his cultural essence as a historical figure and a formative symbol for the new generations, will be explored as part of a program that includes keynote lectures, round-table discussions, panels, book presentations, and documentary screenings.

Ms. Abay also said that a symposium dedicated to the Cuban revolutionary process and several forums focused on youth, women’s role, social movements, and networks of artists and intellectuals will be held in parallel.

She pointed out that the announcement has been well received by scholars from the United States, Spain, and Latin America, as was among academics, researchers, politicians, and journalists willing to participate.

The Colloquium will be part of the activities organized in Cuba to commemorate the centenary of the birth of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution.
