SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, February 3 (ACN) The year 2026 began with greater challenges for the Cuban people, in a context marked by the intensification of the U.S. Cuba policy as a decades-long strategy that has directly impacted the daily lives of the population and the country's development prospects.
While the current Washington administration uses accusations it has been unable to substantiate and declares the Caribbean nation an unusual and extraordinary threat to the most powerful country on the planet, the residents of the city of Santiago de Cuba experience the effects of this economic strangulation policy.
Julianela González Bazán, a mother of two children, one of whom has a disability, stated that the limitations to get medicines, toiletries and basic food items affect her family's well-being, “not only materially but also psychologically; it should stop because it harms all Cuban families”.
This perception is shared by Adianis Román, a local young woman who stressed that the blockade manifests itself in multiple spheres of national life, including the availability of fuel, which is essential for the national economy and services, and highlighted the solidarity of the Cuban people, evidenced by the internationalist missions fulfilled by doctors, teachers, and other professionals in various regions of the world.
On his end, Engineer Denis Ruiz Obret referred to the resilience and commitment of several generations to the defense of national sovereignty: “We know there are things that need improvement, but we also know exactly what we don’t want to go back to, so we defend our country with conviction and love,” he said.
These and other statements set in relief the impact of US policies on the Cuban population, but they also underscore the strength of a people resolved to move forward and to build a just, supportive, and dignified nation, even in the midst of adverse circumstances.
