HAVANA, Cuba, January 28 (ACN) The Code for Children, Adolescents and Youth has just come into effect in the country following his publication in Cuba’s GacetaOficial yesterday, on the 173rdanniversary of the birth of Cuba's National Hero, José Martí in honor of his legacy, largely dedicated to children.
In statements to the press, Cuban Minister of Education Naima Trujillo Barreto gave details about the drafting of the new legislation, previously discussed with a large group of advisors and consultants involved in its development, and remarked that the Code lays down a comprehensive protection system for children, as well as a program to support and engage young people which places them as the main drivers of their personal development.
“What follows is the practical implementation of this legal instrument, and the most important thing is that the target groups get to feel involved in the process”, she pointed out. “To this end, commissions will be established at all levels to bolster provisions already enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic and the Family Code, which are now being incorporated more specifically into matters related to these age groups”.
