HAVANA, Cuba, January 29 (ACN) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruzpresided over extraordinary meetings of the government councils in the provinces of Guantánamo and Santiago de Cuba and urged the local authorities to boost production and work in accordance with the country’s current needs.
Since increasing food production and exports are priorities for 2026, Mr. Marrero stressed the need to transform mindsets and leverage the endogenous capacities of,and potential for production linkages in, the municipalities, which concentrate most of thecountry's businesses, land, and MSMEs and can guarantee people’s basic food basket.
In the province of Santiago de Cuba, the Prime Minister attended the Extraordinary Provincial Council, where the 173rdanniversary of the birth of National Hero José Martí and the centennial of the birth of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, were commemorated.
The province has more than 16,000 agricultural workers, who will need to farm more land in order to produce more rice and assorted crops, as well as plans in place to strengthen integrated export hubs and establish an investment and business promotion center, four high-tech companies, and a science and technology park linked to the University of Oriente.
With the power grid and telecommunications and other basic services damaged by Hurricane Melissa already restored, the province is also working on 66 local development projects in which more than 400 million pesos were invested for neighborhoods, health, cultural, educational, and sports institutions, as well as implementing actions for the benefit of vulnerable groups.
The Prime Minister concluded that these extraordinary councils enrich the exercise of popular government with transformations in line with the present historical moment
