Torchlight March to commemorate centenary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz

HAVANA, Cuba, January 27 (ACN) Motivated by the centennial of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, young people from across the country will participate tonight in the traditional Torchlight March.

Meyvis Estevez Echeverria, first secretary of the National Committee of the Young CommunistLeague (UJC by its Spanish acronym), urged participants to attend the event with full awareness of the reasons that drive them to march, at a time of hardship and intensified threats, but which will not break the Cuban people's will to resist and overcome.

The youth leader also called for a tribute to be paid from the historic steps of the University of Havana to the 32 Cuban combatants who died during the aggression perpetrated by U.S. forces in Venezuela on January 3.

RaúuPalmeroFernández, first secretary of UJC in Havana, shared that this year's March will be guided by the slogan: "Centennial Anti-Imperialist Torch."

These concepts underscore the enduring relevance of the thought of National Hero Jose Marti and Fidel Castro, while also reaffirming the march itself as an act of cultural and political resistance against the growing threats of the U.S. administration.

The March of the Torches, in memory of National Hero Jose Marti, was first held at midnight on January 27, 1953, on the eve of his centennial. Seventy-three years after that event, another centennial invites us to the same gathering, guided by the enduring ideals of justice and sovereignty among new generations of Cubans.
