HAVANA, Cuba, January 9 (ACN) Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, chaired the Extraordinary Plenary Session of the Provincial Committee of the Party in Santiago de Cuba, where he emphasized that true unity is built through "debate and responsible criticism," not through silence.
According to information published on Thursday on the official X, the meeting, which was attended by the Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee, Roberto Morales Ojeda, is the fourth of its kind in this round, following those already held in Pinar del Río, Artemisa, and Guantánamo.
The activists in Santiago de Cuba, as in the other provinces, analyzed the agreements of the 11th Plenum of the Central Committee and the territorial plans for facing 2026.
In his remarks, President Díaz-Canel referred to the importance of "strengthening unity, based on the concepts put forth by Fidel and Raúl," emphasizing that "unity is not built on silence but on truth."
He called for "creating constant spaces for the participation of the people, and especially of young people," and praised the working methods that prioritize "the permanent link with the grassroots," where the main production and service processes take place.
The president condemned the intensified blockade by the United States government, but also offered self-criticism, addressing issues related to internal shortcomings, obstacles, delays, formalism, and bureaucracy.
He reiterated the principle of a more democratic Party, stating that "it is not only the Party of the members, it is the Party of the nation, and it must be concerned about the problems of all Cubans."
He urged members to feel "responsible for solving problems, through commitment, dedication, and discipline."
With this Plenum in Santiago de Cuba, the Party leadership continues its tour of the provinces to mobilize the membership around the country's economic and productive priorities, emphasizing an internal operating model that combines unity of action with constructive criticism and a stronger connection with the grassroots.
