SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, January 8 (ACN) On January 19 to 23, the Center for Applied Linguistics (CLA) of the Social Sciences and Humanities Agency of the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA) will hold the XIX International Symposium on Social Communication, intended to foster scientific analysis and discussion of research in various areas.
The event, scheduled to take place in the context of Cuban Science Day, will gather about 90 participants, including 20 experts from Japan, Spain, France, Costa Rica, Chile, Mexico, and Brazil.
CLA director Dr. Leonel Ruiz Miyares remarked that the Symposium will be dedicated to the centennial of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, a figure who made significant contributions to Cuban science in general and to social sciences in particular, and stressed that it is an honor to pay tribute to Fidel even if the conference is not political in nature.
According to Dr. Ruiz, prestigious specialists will give two pre-event courses and keynote lectures and make presentations on highly topical issues such as vocabulary, discursive strategies, linguistic identity in social networks and educational centers, crisis communication, socio-emotional communication with the elderly and young children, the use of chatbots and artificial intelligence, and popular education.
He pointed out that there will be a significant academic exchange despite the global crisis and reaffirmed the will to maintain the tradition of this symposium in order to keep improving our knowledge about social communication and linguistics.
