Cuba marked the 50th anniversary of membership at Dubna Nuclear Institute



HAVANA, Cuba, Dec. 5 (ACN) With a main ceremony in the capital, Cuba commemorated today the 50th anniversary of its incorporation as a member of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, Russia, an intergovernmental scientific institution recognized worldwide for its contributions to fundamental physics, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) stated on its Facebook page.

Armando Rodriguez Batista, Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, presided over the ceremony along with Grigory Trubnikov, Director of the JINR; Idalia Lopez, Vice Minister of CITMA; Gonzalo Walwyn Salas, Cuba's Plenipotentiary Representative to the JINR; and other academics and authorities.

In his remarks, Rodriguez Batista declared that it is a privilege for Cuba to collaborate with a scientific institution of the caliber of the JINR, which maintains ties with more than a thousand research centers and universities worldwide.

Gonzalo Walwyn Salas expressed his gratitude for the results achieved over five decades of scientific cooperation, which have fostered the training of more than 300 Cuban specialists in nuclear sciences.

During the event, a lecture entitled "Large Research Infrastructure and Ambitious Program of the JINR International Scientific Center in Dubna" was given by Trubnikov, who highlighted the importance of joint projects and Cuba's active participation.

The exchange included remarks from plenipotentiary representatives of other countries and a dialogue with scientists who collaborated with the institution, emphasizing the training of generations of managers and leaders who have contributed significantly to the development of nuclear applications in the country.

The JINR organizes more than 40 international conferences annually and maintains a broad collaborative network, reinforcing the importance of Cuba's membership in this organization.
