Cuban Ministry of Communications showcases AI solutions at FIHAV 2025

HAVANA, Cuba, November 25 (ACN) The Ministry of Communications is showcasing innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions developed in Cuba at the AI Cuba pavilion during the 41st Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2025).

Yudian Almeida Cruz, a professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Havana (UH), told the Cuban News Agency exclusively that among the most interesting solutions is “Cecilia,” a project dedicated to building the country's generative AI ecosystem, starting with a national language model.

Almeida Cruz, who leads this initiative, explained that internationally used language models contain very little information about the Caribbean nation and, in some ways, fail to express Cuban culture as they should.

It is estimated, for example, that children will spend half their time speaking with an AI assistant in the next 10 years, which could become a serious cultural problem if the assistant is unfamiliar with Cuba, he noted.

He also stated that this project, rooted in technology, is essentially a cultural project, based on building a trained language model using information about Cuba.

The Vice President of the University of Havana's Scientific Council also argued that the initiative will not stop there, as an ecosystem for AI applications using these language models will also be built.

The Cuban Ministry of Communications' pavilion at FIHAV 2025 is showcasing more than 80 solutions from various institutions and companies across the country.

The 41st Havana International Fair will run until November 29th at the Expocuba fairgrounds, the day it will open its doors to the public.
