Cuban President Attends Setting up China-donated Solar Park



Havana, Nov 12 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel attended the setting up on Tuesday of a new solar park in the western province of Artemisa, which was donated by China.

According to the Presidency’s X account, the setting up of the new solar park winds up the first stage of installation of the donation from the People's Republic of China which is equivalent to, in its two parts, to 120 megawatts (MW).

The first stage includes seven solar parks of 5 Megawatts each, totaling 35 megawatts.

China’s ambassador to Havana Hua Xin highlighted the strategic importance of this project, which will provide the Cuban people with a stable electricity supply, while saving foreign currency and reducing carbon emissions.

The diplomat said that China keeps its cooperation with Cuba in the energy sector, which also include equipment and spare parts and five thousand solar power systems for isolated homes.

Cuban deputy foreign trade and investment minister Déborah Rivas conveyed on behalf of the Cuban government and Communist Party the deepest and most sincere gratitude to the People's Republic of China for the huge efforts to carry out the in the shortest possible time.

She also thanked the Chinese government for the prompt response for the recovery of from Hurricane Melissa, with donations of food, galvanized steel coils for the production of roofs, mattresses, solar lights, which will benefit those affected.

With the hooking of the new solar park to the national grid, a total of seven similar parks are operative now throughout the island nation.
The second stage of the China-Cuba project expects the setting up 13 solar parks of five and 10 Megawatts.lc
