Cuban experts continue maintenance work at the country's largest thermoelectric plant

MATANZAS, Cuba, November 11 (ACN) After the first 50 hours of work at the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE), the largest and most efficient unitized unit in Cuba, the four-day light maintenance project is progressing favorably.It aims to restore power and stability to the plant.

According to a statement issued this afternoon by CTE Guiteras itself, via its institutional Facebook page, the repair of faults in the high-temperature reheater (RAT) tubes, considered the critical element of the work schedule, is expected to be completed today.

The statement further explains that a hydraulic test will then be conducted to verify that no new defects exist, while repairs continue on the feedwater line, the FQL sector, and more than fifty valves, as well as the cleaning of the condenser.

Other areas undergoing improvement include automated systems, software and hardware, and electrical systems, while the replacement and cleaning of burners is progressing.

Nearly one hundred workers from other provinces are involved in these activities, including professionals from the eastern part of the country.

The light maintenance at the Guiteras plant includes more than 500 corrective actions aimed at ensuring that by next Wednesday, when they will attempt to synchronize with the National Electric System (SEN), they can reliably contribute more than 200 megawatts (MW) to Cuba's power generation.

Recognized as a leading thermal power generation facility in the country, the Guiteras plant was taken offline from the SEN in the early hours of last Saturday due to defects that required immediate intervention and also limited the unit's output to just 130 MW.

Founded in March 1988 by Fidel Castro, the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, the bloc stands out for being located in the western part of the island, where the largest shipments are concentrated, and for consuming domestic crude oil by pipeline, without the need for transportation costs, among other advantages.
