HAVANA, Cuba, November 7 (ACN) A broad solidarity mobilization unfolded in the capital to collect donations for the eastern provinces affected by Hurricane Melissa, reported the newspaper Tribuna de La Habana and mass organizations.
Combatants from the Ministry of the Interior (Minint), the Ministry of Justice (Minjus), among other Central State Administration organizations, and new productive sectors participated in the collection of resources, which were delivered to sites designated by the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution for this purpose.
Among the contributions were new clothing, food, and toys, as detailed by Irina Serra Podios, representative of the self-employment project Tic Toc.
The first delivery of donations took place at the headquarters of the Cuban Workers Central Federation (CTC by its Spanish acronym) in the province, with the presence of Oscar Manuel Silvera Martinez, Minister of Justice; Yaisel Osvaldo Pieter Terry, member of the Central Committee and member of the Organizing Committee of the XXII CTC Congress; and Niuris Cabrera Ibañez, general secretary of the National Union of Public Administration Workers.
Eliades Rodriguez Martinez, provincial coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) in Havana, highlighted that the call made by the National Directorate was deployed zone by zone, achieving broad popular participation.
The resources are carefully sorted at the CTC headquarters, separating clothing for adults and children into different boxes, before being transported to the affected areas.
The National Defense Council will determine the final destination of the donations, in accordance with the damage assessments carried out by the People's Councils, municipalities, and provinces, and taking into account the most urgent priorities.
The solidarity of the Havana population constitutes immediate support for the affected families and strengthens the national response capacity to natural disasters.
