Roberto Morales Ojeda praises FAR and MININT’s work in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa

Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, praised the actions of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) in the rescue and relief efforts following Hurricane Melissa.

Morales Ojeda emphasized on his official Facebook profile that the combatants from both institutions did not rest in their mission to save lives and reaffirmed their status as a people in uniform, always ready to respond with discipline and efficiency. “Whenever the country needs them, they will be there, disciplined and efficient,” he stated.

The Cuban leader noted that the greatest recognition of this work was the gratitude of thousands of Cubans who received support in successive evacuation and assistance operations.

Prior to the hurricane’s impact, the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) activated Civil Defense support plans, deploying personnel to at-risk provinces, establishing command posts, and providing specialized transport. Priority was given to the preventive evacuation of families in low-lying areas and opening shelters in educational and social institutions.

During the hurricane, the FAR used amphibious transport and engineering equipment to rescue people in flooded areas, while the Minint ensured public order and supported rescue operations. They also established rail and road corridors, enabling the transfer of hundreds of evacuees to municipalities with suitable accommodations.

After the hurricane, efforts focused on immediate recovery. The Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) intervened in opening access routes and in the air transport of evacuees and critical cargo, while the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) participated in rescues, reinforced security in the affected areas, and regulated traffic on unstable roads.

The coordination between the FAR, Minint, Civil Defense, and local governments made it possible to reduce risks and preserve human life amidst material limitations and the impact of the United States’ economic, commercial, and financial blockade.
